When in doubt, wear a dress!

Yesterday I didn't plan anything I was going to wear. I stood in my closet and decided to go with 'Plan B'...

Plan B is anything that seems like it will work because you can't think or make something else work. Doesn't that sound like everyday life?

So 'Plan B' was when in doubt, wear a dress day! Here is what I wore:

How do you deal with your 'what should I wear today' dilemma?

5 Reasons to Closet Purge

Seeing this first thing is the morning is not a good way to start your day...
 1) Size Matters. Too big or too small (Are you waiting to be that size again?) Dress for NOW! If it doesn't fit, purge it!

 2) Not Fitting In. It fits poorly. Maybe you could wear it if it didn't pucker or if it was let out a little. Either take it to a tailor, or purge it!

 3) The Dating Game. Clothes Outdated? If and when those archaic styles come back into fashion, be assured new colors and fabrics will be used by the current designers. (Besides, did you really want to wear that style again?)

 4) True Colors. It's a bad color for you. Every time you put it on you get asked if you feel alright. Truth is you don't look good in it and it just sits in your closet...you know what to do with it. Purge it!

 5) Hated It! You never liked it. Reason enough! Go ahead and purge it because it's taking up precious closet space. Allow someone else the chance to love it - give it to charity.

My promise to you. Having a closet with only clothes you love and wear will energize you like nothing else! The best part is...it's like magic. Magically you will find you have MORE to wear! Try it and see.

What's your favorite shoe style right now?

So many shoes...so little time! LOL!

Shoes have a way of dressing up or down whatever we are wearing. They are powerful little things, aren't they? Depending upon how dressy or casual our shoe choice is ... the vibe of our outfit changes completely.

Right now, I'm loving my orange wedge sandals (below) because even though they are a bright color...they seem to go with everything in my warm season wardrobe.

What are your favorite shoe styles right now...and why?

Trying not to be boring in beige

I don't wear much beige. Some light neutral shades tend to wash me out, while others seem to highlight my light coloring. Both of these neutral pieces I normally wear with something more colorful.

However, with our recent delightful warm weather I felt like dressing up a bit. This is what I wore yesterday and I felt comfortable yet stylish in all beige.

Beige is not normally my 'feel good' color...but yesterday it seemed to be working!

Beige normally seems a bit boring...but I was pleasantly surprised with this outfit.
What's your 'go to' or feel good color you love to wear?

What are you still missing?

The number one reason you stand in front of your way-too-full closet in the morning and exclaim, “I have nothing to wear” is because you still are MISSING key pieces!
What are you still missing???

By not having the necessary key pieces (wardrobe basics) you’ll continually stress out with a “what to wear” dilemma every time you open your closet. Who needs added stress to start their day?

For example...Have you ever purchased the “perfect” shirt at the mall only to come home and find you have nothing to match it? If so, your closet is still missing what you really need and you keep purchasing 'quick fixes' for your wardrobe. So what are you waiting for? Let’s find out what you really need in your closet so each morning (or evening) when you set out your clothes--it’s like shopping in a stylish boutique!

The majority of your clothing should mix and match—or not hang in your closet at all. The only exceptions should be special occasion clothing (you hopefully have hanging in the back or another closet).

“Do I wear this—ever?”

If not, why is it STILL in your closet?

Your clothes should pay YOU rent! Since closets are usually smaller than we would like, keeping clothes in there that aren’t being worn is silly and takes up valuable real estate. Give them the boot or have them pay you rent, lol! PURGE unworn items so you can organize what you DO wear and start a list of things you still need.

“What to have in your closet” (3 main clothing categories)

1. The Basics: I can’t stress enough how vital your basic pieces are! They are your foundation for everyday dressing. They need to fit well and make you feel like a million bucks when you wear them. Have your basics altered for proper fit as needed.

Must-have Basics include:
__Classic dark wash jeans

__Flat-front pants

__A-line skirt (dark solid color)

__Pencil skirt

__Sheath dress

__Button-down blouses

__Classic tees

__Denim jacket

__Classic pumps

__V-neck sweaters

A v-neck sweater can be dressed up or down...
 2. Dependable Extras: These garments always work! They are your favorite “go to” pieces when you need to feel confident and you’re not sure what else to wear. You trust their fit, color and style. They are true investment pieces that have earned their keep in your closet over time.

Dependable extras include: __Classic blazer

__Cashmere v-neck sweater

__Timeless LBD

__Trench coat

__Pencil skirt

__Gabardine wool trousers

Little Black Dress, LBD (can be any neutral color, simple design)

(comes in purple too!)

A 'LBD' is like a blank canvas...

3. Sassy Stuff: These are the “fun” pieces you wear to “Show Your Style” SYSter! They may be a classic item or a trendy piece. They are the right accessories and seasonal updates that distinguish your sense of style from the masses.

Sassy Stuff includes:
__Long strand of pearls (can be worn multiple of ways)

__Chanel-like scarf

__Michael Kors handbag (any classic designer bag)

__Cole Haan pumps

A quality, classic shoe is an investment you will wear over and over again...

EACH SEASON ADD...Trendy style makers like:
 __Tribal inspired bangles

__Statement necklaces

__Floral print skirt/or trendy dress

__Metallic flats (or bright-colored ones)

__Patent leather belt (extra wide/skinny/or animal print)

__Sheer georgette ruffle blouse

Start with your Basics list and then go from there. I promise you will have more peace in the morning and start each day with a positive attitude PLUS fabulous style!

From Bikes to Dresses...

I do love being a 'girly' girl, but I'm not always that way. Yes, I like to dress up and mix things around in my wardrobe, plus try out a new accessory or two, etc....but I also like playing in the dirt. Hopefully not my whole body in the dirt, but getting out on my mountain bike. Biking never gets old or less challenging.

On Mother's Day morning before the massive rains came down... I went mountain bike riding and had a blast. I went to the 'hard' course that's pretty technical and makes me nervous if I think about it too much. All went well. I didn't end up IN the dirt or even graze a tree!

After biking, I came home, cleaned up (read: showered) then went out to lunch. And just to prove to others and myself what a 'girl' I am...I wore a DRESS!

Of course I wore a DRESS for my lunch date...

Do you wear clothes that make you feel like you have several personalities?
Like dressing for work or a big presentation, would you dress differently?

Giving Capris One Last Chance

If you been hanging around my blog/website since at least last summer, you've heard me mention my personal HATE for capris...over and over.

They have always made me feel a bit dumpy and so I had purged my closet from ALL CAPRIS!

Well, now I've gone and added these new ones in to my wardrobe! These chambray capris were purchased at my local Target...

What do you think?

Do you think these capris are keepers?

A Weekend of Celebration

Last weekend was one I had been anticipating for more than four years...

My youngest son graduated from college and commissioned in the Army!

What will it be like to have our youngest son finally all done and graduated from college? Final payments made to the school and now he's ready to move out and be on his own!

Will I be sad and empty or ready to celebrate MY new sense of freedom? I'm still not yet sure how I feel about it all. But what I do know is that since I became a 'mom' at the tender age of twenty, I've been doing this 'mom' thing for over thirty years now--and that's a long time! Sometimes I think I missed out on being a young adult before I had my kids. But then I talk to one of my adult children and I count my blessings in life all over again! They are wonderful young men and I could not be prouder to be their mom! Thank you sons (I love you)!

Time has a way of flying by. Sure there will be regrets and some sadness for my loss as I close this chapter on 'parenting' but I have to say I feel more joy and happiness because I know this young man is going to choose good things in his life. I can't wait to see what he does.

We spent time together as a family attending quite a few of the festivities and as well as some time at the beach. I even got in a bit of shopping....I'll post more photos later this week!

Love, Leslie
