I bought only a few new items of clothing (in fact, you'd be shocked to discover how very little clothing I own), but it looks like I have an entire new wardrobe. A few of the new things I bought are a lot bolder than what I have previously owned. It took some nerve to wear the bolder stuff the first time, but it has helped me gain confidence.

I appreciate your advice about belts a few weeks ago. So much really does look better belted!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-974005426631136538.post-26086180846870332922011-08-22T15:36:52.353-07:002011-08-22T15:36:52.353-07:00Marta, I so agree! However, I've recently discovered that I can wear a silk scarf around my neck, I guess because it's a natural fabric and it doesn't feel hot. It must be silk though.songbirdfeederhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12320758966752384663noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-974005426631136538.post-76373297587065536382011-08-22T15:29:44.388-07:002011-08-22T15:29:44.388-07:00I'd say you are right on the mark Marta! But on real hot summer days it's uncomfortable for me to wear chunky necklaces or larger hoops or long earrings. So I wear colorful shoes (my lime green espadrilles are a favorite!) or a straw tote, or a cute scarf around my waist to jazz up an outfit and pull it together to show my style. It seems to work because I get compliments. Any other suggestions for real hot days, Leslie? In the long run this way of putting together your style costs you a lot less & makes you more stylish! Glad you are finding this to be true...

@Turtlemss...wearing matched sets is outdated. When you get "older" it's hard to know what's in and what's out. That's what my style service is all about...real style advice weekly for real women.

You can and should still wear your pearl necklaces...just wear them with any small simple stud earring or small hoop.

Your 25 yr. old daughter is a barameter of styles...but she being young has lots of options. As we mature we should stay more classic and just touch on the trends. This keeps our look current w/out looking like we are trying too hard.

Hope that helps!Leslie aka "MissusSmartyPants"https://www.blogger.com/profile/17046854490448047197noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-974005426631136538.post-81539357943585956032010-12-12T20:41:59.786-08:002010-12-12T20:41:59.786-08:00So, pearl studs and a pearl necklace is a matronly...So, pearl studs and a pearl necklace is a matronly look, not a classic look? Trying to find the line between classic and matronly is challenging when you are 60. I'd prefer to look right for my age, and know what looks right on my 25 year old daughter, probably won't look right on me. On her, I can see pearl studs and a pearl necklace as matronly,
although she wear my mother's pearl choker quite well.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-974005426631136538.post-36398252529463410152010-12-05T09:42:55.365-08:002010-12-05T09:42:55.365-08:00Great post Leslie! You are so right!Once I started ...Great post Leslie! You are so right!Once I started working with accessories my true style showed!I don't buy clothes so much anymore but I splurge on accessories or make my own! It's so much more fun!Angiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00983379246655422263noreply@blogger.com
